Surfers Paradise Baseball- the way forward

19 Jun 2020 by Hamish Kiddle

Hello Surfers Baseball members and families

There is no doubt that the events of the past few months have thrown us all one massive curve ball!

As we progress to return to a new normal, it is reassuring to know that sport will be a pivotal part in our recovery.

Whilst the return to sport comes with a lot more rules and regulations – ultimately it will be great to see our members , players, coaches, officials, volunteers, supporters and of course our extended baseball families back at the club with smiles on their faces in the very near future.

Unfortunately, the club together with the community have been impacted by the effects of Covid 19.

The summer season came to an abrupt halt and we missed out on our usual end of season activities and functions.

Our doors have been closed since March, a reduced winter season is presently being planned, (which is great!) and we await confirmation as to what the 2020/21 summer season will look like.

Recently the club received the devastating news of the cancellation of Pan Pacific Masters Games for 2020.

These factors combined, have had a financial impact which means that, like any business, we need to review our plans and take actions to ensure that the club continues to be the leading force in the sport.

We all cherish being a part of this special club and with your ideas, time and of course generosity – we know we as a club will get through these challenging times ‘together’.

As always, as a volunteer based club, we would welcome any assistance that members can offer.

Please send us an email with your details and ideas of how you can assist to the following address and we’ll be in touch – secretary@surfersbaseball.com or comment below.

We are also happy to discuss any plans/ideas with you so please feel free to call us. Also keen to hear your thoughts on your experience at the club last season and what worked, what didn’t, areas you think need improvement and how you think the improvement could be implemented.

Last Sunday it was great to see our junior coaches come together in their own time to collectively review the last season and discuss what worked; what didn’t; where we can improve as a club. It was a really valuable session and testament to the high calibre of expertise, quality and care that the club offers in terms it’s junior development program.

At this stage we are looking at Sunday 12 July 2020 for the club’s Annual General Meeting so keep an eye out for further notices about that and we will look forward to getting together then.

Thank you again for all your support, there is much to look forward to at Surfers.

Kind regards

Surfers Paradise Baseball Club Committee
